Sphynx personality and temperament

Sphynx cats are often outgoing and people-focused, with specific warmth and skin-care needs.

Diet and feeding

Feed a complete, balanced food appropriate for age, health and body condition. Portion by calories rather than bowl size, keep fresh water available and make dietary changes gradually.

There is no single food that every Sphynx prefers. The right choice is nutritionally complete, accepted by the cat and suited to their veterinary needs. Treats should remain a small part of daily calories.

How Sphynx cats like to play

Use short, regular play sessions that mimic stalking, chasing and catching. Match intensity to age, mobility and confidence, and rotate safe toys to keep them interesting.

Size, home and family life

A good match depends on the individual cat, previous social experience and the household routine. Introductions to children and other animals should be calm, gradual and supervised.

Provide hiding places, elevated resting spots, scratching surfaces, separate resources in multi-cat homes and a litter tray setup the cat can use comfortably.

Grooming and everyday care

Regular skin care. Introduce handling gradually and stop before the cat becomes uncomfortable. Check the coat, skin, ears, eyes, teeth and claws during calm care sessions.

Health considerations

Ask the breeder or rescue about health history and recommended screening. Track weight, appetite, drinking, movement, toileting and behaviour, and discuss significant changes with a vet.
