The breed was created accidentally when a Chinchilla Persian male and a Lilac Burmese female, both owned by Baroness Miranda von Kirchberg, mated unexpectedly. The resulting kittens had a stunning silver-tipped coat and an elegant appearance, which caught the attention of breeders.
The Burmilla’s unique coat is a hallmark of the breed, combining the silky texture and shading of the Chinchilla Persian with the sleek body and affectionate nature of the Burmese. Eyes
The Burmilla cat has large and expressive eyes placed well apart at a slightly oblique setting. The eyes are any shade of green, with clear green preferred. Kittens and young cats under the age of 2 years may display a yellow tinge in their eyes. Amber eyes are permitted in red, cream, and torbie Burmillas.
